For a short trip to Johor Bahru or anywhere in Malaysia, a Singapore citizen needs very little: a valid passport. There is no visa, you get a visit pass of up to 30 days, and you are exempt from Malaysia’s digital arrival card. The rules are different for Singapore PRs and other passport holders, so check which group you are in.

Visa and length of stay
Singapore citizens do not need a visa to enter Malaysia and are granted a social visit pass of up to 30 days on arrival, for tourism or short visits.
The MDAC: who is exempt, who must file
The Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) has been mandatory for foreign travellers since 1 January 2024. However:
- Singapore citizens are fully exempt from the MDAC at all entry points - land (Causeway and Second Link), air and sea. You simply present your Singapore passport.
- Singapore permanent residents travelling on a foreign passport are not exempt. They must complete the MDAC online within three days (72 hours) before arrival.
- Non-Singaporean family members travelling with you each need their own MDAC unless separately exempt.
Autogate
Singapore passport holders can use Malaysia’s automated immigration gates at airports such as KLIA, subject to conditions (a passport valid at least six months, and submitting an MDAC first to enrol).
Before you cross
If you are driving, you also need a VEP for your car. For the different ways across the border, see how to get to JB. Always confirm the current rules on Singapore’s MFA page and Malaysia’s immigration site on the day you travel, because entry requirements change.
