Trip Budget Calculator for Regional Getaways

Short answer

Add your own transport, accommodation, food and activity costs and the tool returns a trip total and a per-person figure. The only built-in numbers are official fixed charges - nothing about hotels or flights is invented.

Use this to sketch what a getaway from Singapore might cost before you start booking. You supply the prices you can see today; the tool only hard-codes charges that come from an official source.

Estimate only. Official figures: Malaysia VEP charges at JPJ (RM10 tag, RM20/entry, as of July 2025); Changi departure charges of S$65.20 per departing passenger at Changi Airport Group (as of 1 April 2026), already inside your airfare.

As of October 2026. Enter your own costs for an estimate. The only fixed figures are official charges (Malaysia VEP and Changi departure levy) — no hotel or flight prices are built in.

How it is calculated

The estimate is a plain sum of the costs you enter, with official fixed charges kept separate:

  • Transport = your per-person return figure x travellers.
  • Accommodation = your per-room nightly rate x rooms x nights.
  • Food & drink = your per-person daily figure x travellers x (nights + 1), counting meals on both your arrival and departure days.
  • Activities & shopping = your per-person figure x travellers.
  • Other / buffer = a one-off amount for the whole party.
  • Per person divides the trip total by the number of travellers.

The only numbers not entered by you are official charges:

  • Malaysia VEP (driving): a one-time RM10 RFID tag valid five years, plus a RM20 Road Charge per entry. These are the published figures on Malaysia’s official VEP portal (JPJ); driving in without a valid, activated VEP risks a RM300 compound. The tool shows the ringgit total separately because it is paid in MYR and is on top of fuel and tolls.
  • Changi departure charges (flying): S$46.40 Passenger Service and Security Fee + S$8.00 Aviation Levy + S$10.80 Airport Development Levy = S$65.20 per departing passenger (Changi Airport Group schedule, from 1 April 2026). These are already inside the airfare you enter, so the tool displays them for transparency and does not add them again.

Everything else - hotel rates, flight and ferry fares, activity prices - is left to you, because those move daily and we will not invent them.

A worked example (illustrative)

Two friends drive to Johor Bahru for a two-night weekend, one room. They enter: transport S$60 each return (fuel and tolls), a room at S$120 a night, S$40 a day each for food, S$60 each for activities and shopping, and a S$30 buffer.

  • Transport S$120 + accommodation S$240 + food S$240 + activities S$120 + buffer S$30 = S$750 for the trip, about S$375 per person.
  • Because they drive, add the official VEP charges: RM10 tag (first trip) + RM20 x 2 entries = RM40, so about RM50 in ringgit on top.

These figures are an illustration only, not a quote.

Limits of this estimate

  • It is only as good as the prices you type in - check live fares and room rates for your dates.
  • It does not convert currencies or track exchange rates; the ringgit VEP charge is shown in MYR on purpose.
  • It ignores Indonesian ferry terminal and seaport fees, visa-on-arrival costs (not needed for Singapore citizens), travel insurance and any SAF levy that may appear on flight tickets. Confirm the official amounts at JPJ’s VEP portal and the Changi fees schedule.
  • Entry rules and official charges change - always check the source before you travel.
